The basic steps of using a height gage
is much the same to vernier calipers. Most often when you measure
with a height gage, you will use an indicator so that you
centralize using your eye rather than using feel.
When you use the depth gage attachment, you make depth or height
measurements past obstructions. When you need to make several
depth measurements, you might find it easier to work from a whole
centimeter or inch than from a decimal. To do so, hold the rod
against the surface plate and adjust the movable jaw to the
nearest centimeter or inch.
After clamping the rod, recheck your measurement and carefully
adjust as required.
