The vernier caliper, is a versatile precision measuring instrument
used to make accurate outside, inside, and depth measurements to
within .001 in. or 0.02 mm for metric tools. A vernier system
consists of a main scale on the bar and a vernier scale on the
movable jaw. Although new digital tools have provided measuring
instruments that are very accurate and easy to use, it is quite
likely that vernier calipers will continute to be used in training
programs and industry for some time. The most common vernier
calipers are available in sizes ranging from 6 to 24 in.(150 to
600mm).
?Both external and internal measurements can be taken.
?The back side edge of the moveable jaw permits shoulder
measurement.
?The depth rod, attached to the movable jaw on some models,
permits depth measurement.
