Direct-reading dial calipers
The direct-reading dial caliper, has a dial indicator mounted on the
movable jaw which provides a direct reading in inches or
millimeters. The edge of the bar for the inch dial caliper is
usually graduated into equal divisions spaced at intervals of .100
in., with every tenth line represented by a large number indicating
inches. The indicator dial is graduated into 100 equal divisions,
each having a value of .001 in. On metric dial calipers the edge fo
the bar is usually graduated in millimeters, with every tenth line
numbered for easy reading. The indicator dial is generally graduated
into 100 equal divisions, each having a value of 0.05 mm, or as fine
as 0.02mm. Dial calipers take measurements quickly and are easier to
read than standard vernier calipers.
