What are dial indicators?

Dial indicators are mechanical instruments for sensing and measuring distance variations. The mechanism of the indicator coverts the axial displacement of the measuring spindle into rotational movement, which is then amplified by mechanical means, and finally displayed by a pointer rotating over the face of a graduated dial.
